01/01/2017 With the Holidays at a close, some thoughts come to me: Let each of us be a better human being, a better person, and a better Legionnaire. New Years is a time to better ourselves for a better world. Have a grand New Year!

We were dark for the month of December, but our regular meeting will resume January 21st at 9AM, and don't forget to come early for a great breakfast. We had a great success with Harbor Days this year and the money is going to help Veterans because that is what we do. Our biggest fundraiser is our membership, and I must sadly say that I have had to sign 5 Post Everlastings in the last few months. I encourage all of you to bring to our meeting a qualified veteran, whether he or she be a neighbor, friend, or someone you meet on the street, and let us tell them about the American Legion and the good that we do.

I am still looking for ideas to have another fundraiser this year so that we can do more for our programs. If you have any suggestions, then please feel free to email or call me. 2017 is here, so let's get involved and make this the best year our post has had yet.

11/01/2016 Comrades, on November 11th there will be a Veterans Day Ceremony at the VANC building at 10 AM, after that is the Salute to Veterans at the Del Mar Racetrack. For $25.00 you receive VIP parking, food, and all 6 races. This is a great time to come out and support this great event that is for the Legion. We have tickets on sale at the VANC Building, see Chuck Atkinson.

Our Auxiliary will be serving breakfast before the general meeting on November 19.

With Thanksgiving coming quickly upon us, I wish you and yours a very blessed Thanksgiving. Mark your calendars that the Post will be going Dark in December. The Post 146 regular and E-board meetings will not be held. In addition, there will not be a newsletter for December.

For the Holiday Party this year the Riders have invited all Post, Auxiliary and SAL members to join them in celebrating the Holiday season at their Christmas Party. It will be a Pot Luck Dinner and Gift Exchange at Rancho San Luis Rey Mobile Home Park. Please contact: Ken Derr, 760-272-5941, or capndirt1@cox.net for more information.

10/01/2016 Firstly, I would like to thank each and every member and volunteer that helped us with our booth at Harbor Days this year and made it such a success. Special thanks to Kevin Johnstone and Edd Robinson for making sure we did not run out of food. Chuck Atkinson, who provided us access to the VANC, was up at the crack of dawn and stayed until the day was done.
Our Sergeant-At-Arms, Rudy Caron, was out in full force talking to Veterans and telling them about the American Legion, and one of our great members, Mr. Bob Noble who is 92 years young, was in the booth slinging hot dogs for hours. It is members like this that contribute to a successful post.

As we look forward this year, we have many things coming down the pike such as our membership drive. Some of you may not know this but it is our membership that is our biggest fundraiser which allows us to support veterans and veterans programs. So get out there, talk to other veterans and tell them about the American Legion and the programs that we support not only locally, but nationally.

We are still in need of volunteers to help us with breakfast preparation and cleanup on our meeting days, so please step up and help us keep this going, because this, even though it is just breakfast, it is one of our fundraisers.

VANC will be hosting their first annual Oktoberfest on October 15th from 12PM-4PM and will have beer tasting, German food, and music. Even if you cannot attend, buy a ticket to make a donation to VANC so that they may continue adding new classes that aid and support our Veterans. Tickets can be purchased online at vancnorthcounty.org.
